Ghatasthapana — also called Kalash Sthapana — is the ritual that formally begins Navratri. A sacred Kalash (pot) is installed and consecrated, barley or wheat seeds are sown in a bed of soil beside it, and Goddess Durga is invited to reside in the home for the nine days ahead.
