Lakshmi Puja is the central ritual of Diwali — performed on Amavasya night, the darkest night of the lunar month, when Goddess Lakshmi is believed to visit homes that are clean, well-lit, and welcoming. It's the same ceremony most households simply refer to as "Diwali Puja" or "Deepavali Puja." Lord Ganesh is worshipped first to remove obstacles, followed by Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and Lord Kuber for the safekeeping of that wealth — together forming the complete ritual performed that evening.

Diwali night is considered the most auspicious time of the year to invite Goddess Lakshmi's presence, and the ritual itself is built around that idea — a home lit with diyas, doors kept open, accounts and business ledgers placed before the deity, all as a way of signalling readiness to receive her.
